20XXTE FAQ
I only have Mr. Game & Watch unlocked for some reason.
When booting Melee, you need to go to VS. Mode > Name Entry. Doing this will load 20XXTE.
I go to "Name Entry" and nothing happens/game freezes.
Make sure you're going to Name Entry from the main menu, and not the character select screen.
In the 20XX menu, "20XX Settings" is blue and I can't select it.
To access 20XX Settings, you need to disable Tournament Mode. If Tournament Mode is on, then everything in 20XX Settings is disabled.
When's PAL?
#Soon
But seriously, I'm working on it! I've had less time for TE lately, but I'm doing my best, and I promise you'll hear any PAL announcements.
Can the 20XXTE memory card be used to store other game data?
Yes, it functions as any normal Gamecube memory card.
Do I still need a copy of Melee to boot 20XXTE?
Yes, of course. Freely distributing a fully-functional copy of Melee would be extremely illegal. 20XXTE is just a save file with some code.
Can I use 20XXTE if I am USB loading Melee?
Yes. However, you must change some settings. Disable Ocarina cheats, disable Pad Hook, and enable Native Control (Nintendont). If you do not enable Native Control, your controller inputs will be emulated which causes inaccuracies. Please do not make this mistake.
Can I store both my old Melee save data as well as 20XXTE?
No. 20XXTE cannot be used in combination with normal Melee save data.
How will I update 20XXTE in the future?
The easiest way will be to just copy the updated save file from someone at your local venue. Otherwise, Wii homebrew software is required as is detailed in the installation instructions.
Does Frozen Mode disable Randall on Yoshi's Story?
No, nor does it affect any stages not on the tournament stage list.
Does 20XXTE include new character colors/skins or new stage skins?
No, this is not possible with 20XXTE. It is only possible with a custom game ISO or burned disc.
Does 20XXTE let me play as the PAL version of a character, or the "SD Remix" version?
No, see above.
What about CPU training tools, such as action record/playback?
20XXTE isn't focused on training, so advanced training tools aren't included. However, you can make CPUs DI/tech randomly, or hold shield to practice pressure.
Does 20XXTE allow me to change my controls or disable tap jump?
No. If you are looking for mods that change the way Melee is played as a game, you can find some stuff on Smashboards.
What does "limited functionality" mean for v1.00/v1.01? What isn't included?
v1.00/v1.01 do not support anything under "Non-Tournament Features". They also do not support replays. Furthermore, a v1.02 setup is required for you to change your settings. v1.00/v1.01 compatibility is designed only for the purpose of being used in tournaments, so that every setup can be loaded with TE.
How is this legal?
The data on the memory card contains nothing more than custom code that I have written; no game files are being distributed. The distribution of 20XXTE is no different from the distribution of Action Replay devices, which is also legal.
I have some other question not listed here.
